Square is a payment processing solution for both online and in-person transactions, including POS terminals.
All processors are configured in one place: Settings → Integrations → Payment Gateway → Configure, which opens the Payment Gateways page.

Connect it

1

Open the Payment Gateways page

Settings → Integrations → Payment Gateway → Configure, then find the Square card.
2

Set the Payment fee

Type 0 if you do not surcharge for card payments.
3

Click Integrate

Continue with the login flow on Square’s side.
4

Set it as your default

Tick Set as default card payment option if Square is the processor charges should run through.
The Access token, Refresh token and their expiry dates fill in automatically and are read-only.

Good to know

Square reports card funding (credit, debit or prepaid), so it can honour a credit-cards-only processing fee. Square payment links stay up until they are paid.

The payment fee

The Payment fee (%) is a percentage added on top of the amount you charge a customer:
  • Leave it empty or 0no fee is added. Charging 200billsthecustomerexactly200 bills the customer exactly **200.00**.
  • Enter 3 → a 3% fee is added. Charging 200billsthecustomer200 bills the customer **206.00** (200+200 + 6 fee).
Only the fee of the processor you set as your default card payment option is applied — it does not depend on which card the customer has. The customer sees the breakdown on the charge screen and on the receipt emailed to them once the payment goes through.
Tick Set as default card payment option on the processor you actually want charges to run through. That checkbox, not the order of the cards, is what decides.
